Bus Sanitization Checklist

Comprehensive sanitization procedures for all buses to ensure passenger safety, hygiene compliance, and prevent the spread of germs and contaminants.

Pre-Sanitization Preparation

  • Ensure bus is parked in designated sanitization area with proper ventilation.
  • Turn off engine and engage parking brake securely.
  • Open all windows and doors for adequate air circulation.
  • Remove all trash, debris, and personal items left by passengers.
  • Check and gather all required sanitization supplies and equipment.
  • Put on appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, mask, and protective clothing.

Interior Surface Sanitization

  • Clean and disinfect all seat surfaces, armrests, and headrests using EPA-approved disinfectant.
  • Sanitize all grab bars, handrails, and support poles throughout the bus.
  • Wipe down and disinfect all window surfaces, sills, and frames.
  • Clean and sanitize interior walls, panels, and partition surfaces.
  • Disinfect all overhead storage compartments and luggage racks.
  • Clean and sanitize reading lights, air vents, and speaker grilles.

High-Touch Point Sanitization

  • Thoroughly disinfect door handles, push bars, and entrance/exit areas.
  • Clean and sanitize fare collection equipment and ticket dispensers.
  • Disinfect passenger call buttons and stop request systems.
  • Sanitize emergency equipment controls and accessibility features.
  • Clean wheelchair securement areas and accessibility ramps/lifts.
  • Disinfect USB charging ports and power outlets if present.

Floor & Aisle Cleaning

  • Sweep and vacuum all floor surfaces, including under seats and in corners.
  • Mop floors with EPA-approved disinfectant solution, ensuring complete coverage.
  • Clean and disinfect all floor mats and rubber surfaces.
  • Sanitize step wells and entrance areas with appropriate cleaning agents.
  • Pay special attention to high-traffic aisle areas and boarding zones.
  • Allow adequate drying time before proceeding to next steps.

Driver Area Sanitization

  • Clean and disinfect driver's seat, steering wheel, and all controls.
  • Sanitize dashboard, instrument panel, and all switches/buttons.
  • Disinfect driver's side door handle, mirrors, and window controls.
  • Clean radio equipment, communication devices, and GPS systems.
  • Sanitize fare collection equipment and driver protective barriers.
  • Wipe down driver's area storage compartments and personal item areas.

Air System & Ventilation

  • Replace or clean air filters according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Run HVAC system for at least 10 minutes to circulate fresh air.
  • Check and clean air intake vents and exhaust systems.
  • Ensure proper operation of ventilation fans and air circulation systems.
  • Verify air conditioning and heating systems are functioning properly.
  • Document filter replacement dates and system maintenance.

Final Inspection & Documentation

  • Conduct thorough visual inspection of all sanitized areas.
  • Verify all cleaning supplies and equipment have been properly stored.
  • Complete sanitization log with date, time, and inspector signature.
  • Place sanitization certificate or notice in visible location.
  • Dispose of used PPE and cleaning materials according to safety protocols.
  • Schedule next sanitization based on usage frequency and health guidelines.
