Comprehensive safety inspection procedures for all bus types to ensure compliance with safety standards and optimal passenger protection.

Pre-Trip Inspection

  • Verify all required documentation is present and current (registration, insurance, inspection certificates).
  • Check driver's valid CDL and medical certificate.
  • Review previous maintenance reports and address any outstanding issues.
  • Ensure fuel level is adequate for planned route.
  • Verify emergency contact information is available and current.
  • Confirm route information and special instructions are understood.

Engine & Mechanical Systems

  • Check engine oil level, color, and consistency.
  • Inspect coolant level and check for leaks in radiator and hoses.
  • Verify power steering fluid level and condition.
  • Check transmission fluid level (if accessible).
  • Inspect drive belts for proper tension, cracks, or fraying.
  • Listen for unusual engine noises during idle and acceleration.
  • Check exhaust system for leaks, damage, or excessive emissions.
  • Verify air intake system is clean and properly secured.

Braking Systems

  • Test service brakes for proper engagement and stopping power.
  • Check parking brake for secure hold on incline.
  • Inspect brake fluid level and color (should be clear, not dark).
  • Listen for unusual brake noises (squealing, grinding, or air leaks).
  • Verify brake pedal feel and travel distance.

Emergency Equipment & Safety Systems

  • Check emergency reflective triangles or flares are present.

Passenger Safety Features

Exterior Safety & Body Condition
