Emergency Exits & Equipment

  • Verify all emergency exits open freely and are clearly marked.
  • Test emergency door release mechanisms from inside and outside.
  • Check emergency exit lighting and signage visibility.
  • Ensure emergency exit windows function properly (if equipped).
  • Verify emergency roof hatches open and close securely.
  • Check emergency hammer/glass breaker tools are present and accessible.
  • Inspect emergency exit instruction placards for readability.

Passenger Restraint Systems

  • Test all seat belts for proper operation and secure mounting.
  • Inspect seat belt webbing for cuts, fraying, or excessive wear.
  • Check seat belt buckles engage and release smoothly.

Interior Safety Features

  • Inspect all passenger seats for secure mounting and damage.
  • Check aisle and step lighting functionality.
  • Verify stop request system operation (buttons/cords).
  • Test PA/intercom system for clear communication.
  • Check floor surfaces for damage, wear, or slip hazards.
  • Inspect handrails and grab bars for secure mounting.
  • Ensure no sharp edges or protrusions in passenger areas.
  • Verify ventilation system operation and air quality.

Emergency Communication & Safety Equipment

  • Test emergency communication devices (radio, cell phone, panic button).
  • Verify fire extinguisher is properly mounted and charged.
  • Check first aid kit contents and expiration dates.
  • Test emergency flashlight and spare batteries.
  • Verify emergency contact information is posted and current.
  • Check emergency triangles/flares are present and functional.
  • Inspect emergency evacuation plan posting and visibility.
  • Ensure driver's emergency procedures manual is accessible.

Driver Safety & Controls

  • Test all mirrors for proper adjustment and visibility.
  • Check driver's area for secure partition/barrier (if required).
  • Verify driver's seat belt operation and adjustment.
  • Test horn, turn signals, and hazard lights operation.
  • Check dashboard warning lights and gauges functionality.
  • Ensure driver's area is free from distractions and obstructions.
  • Verify backup camera/monitor operation (if equipped).
  • Test door controls and interlock systems.

Exterior Safety Inspection

  • Check all exterior lights (headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals).
  • Inspect tires for proper inflation, tread depth, and damage.
  • Verify reflective tape/markings are clean and intact.
  • Check external emergency door markings and handles.
  • Inspect exterior mirrors for damage and secure mounting.
  • Verify license plates and registration documents are current.
  • Check fuel cap security and no visible leaks.
  • Inspect body panels for damage that could affect safety.

Pre-Service Documentation & Compliance

  • Verify driver has valid CDL with passenger endorsement.
  • Check vehicle inspection certificate is current and displayed.
  • Ensure insurance and registration documents are current.
  • Verify DOT number display (if required).
  • Check maintenance records are up to date.
  • Document any defects found during inspection.
  • Complete daily vehicle inspection report (DVIR).
  • Obtain supervisor approval before placing vehicle in service.
